PvP in new world

Hi again, just wanted to give my .02 on this topic...

I came back to this server soon after the new world went live, set up a new place near spawn, and then took a break for a bit. When I came back folks were fairly established and the PvP was in full swing.

My first impression was unfavorable. I haven't spent much time leveling up my weapons and don't normally run around in diamond gear, so coming back to my house near the spawn point was... eventful (Ok, I was mobbed by 12 year old boys typing stuff their mothers would probably spank them for). I wasn't very happy with the change, and thought about quitting.

Then, I decided to just GTFO of the spawn area and set up camp a ways away. I also dropped plenty of pstone items around my house and set up some booby traps. I learned my lesson, and am as protected from preadolescence as the server allows.

I now appreciate PvP on this server, as it's added a little more flavor to the game and requires me to "spend" materials that would otherwise sit in storage. It takes more planning and thought to survive if you're not a cracked-out kid, and I like it that way (I'm a Darktide alum, google it).

My one concern is that new people on the server will get relentlessly ganked and just decide to quit.
I'd like to see:
- A larger PvP safe zone around spawn
- More explanation about when and where you could be attacked
- Maybe some kind of hotel people could use as a base while they get set up. A noob joining the server has no chance against Mr. All-Diamond and his lvl 300 swording skillz.
- Maybe a sign listing the biggest PvP jerks on the server, people to avoid. Not only would this give you fair warning, it would also give the jerks huge bragging rights. win-win?

Advanced PvP Idea:
Allowing house looting/griefing for either certain people or for a limited time. Make the Jerk Board? You rock, but I hope you've booby trapped your house. Or perhaps there's an assault event where groups have their base pstones disabled.

a lot of great ideas here that we have thought of and working on.. i think we are just taking longer then we should be. we have a whole new larger spawn we are working on at a different location, which will consist of houses and an area that may be able to be bought/rented out. we will also be making the area around it protected with no pvp and building so we dont have that same clutter we have at the current temp spawn.

we do get some complaints about people not liking the pvp but there is plenty of protection against it and in most cases if they just build away from spawn they would be safe. its a survival server and i think it adds that extra threat that is needed.

i will see if we can hurry with the new spawn and changes as i would hate to lose potential long time junkie players like the many we already have.

Hi guys,
Just to let you know Thorn is almost finished so that should probably draw some attention off the spawn.
And Korthic I was wondering if i could have some land near spawn for something (i.e. for new members) and if you need more information on this let me know when im on or message me).
And tsm_sf i suggest but not entirely (only with trusted members) to hire a body gaurd around spawn. I do sometimes and it helps. And thanks for the great suggestions, we are working to solve each and everyone of them

Yeah, as Korthic said we might lose players due to idiots that camp the spawn (Not including myself, I occasionally PVP but actually run out and fight people in diamond). I can't wait personally, I haven't built a new house in 1.8 due to the spawn being moved, so i'm just waiting it out, meanwhile i'm wasting all my crap on the people who do PVP, it's funner using them then actually pvping sometimes.
