ok i'm curious can people add/destroy things to get out of traps to protect houses or not in vanilla

and griefing is not if you find a way out a trap in a regular cave and walk 50 - 100 blocks and dig u out

I want to ask this out of curiosity, because it happened to me a couple times. You are walking around then you fall in this giant-stupid hole someone made in the ground. Am I allowed to build up to get out, while breaking the blocks I place?
