Sapling drop rate

I've noticed that sapling drop rate has been greatly reduced somewhat recently. I'm not sure if everyone is experiencing this, or if I'm just getting really, really unlucky.
I have several tree farms set up, and they used to be self-sustaining. Even with tightly planted trees (i.e. few leaves and few drops) I'd nearly break even on saplings. Now I'm lucky to get one sapling per dozen trees.
I do, however, get many apples. Is the mod that increases apple drop rates doing so at the expense of saplings? Is this all in my imagination?
Thanks!

I don't think theere is a mod, i think vanilla minecrtaft has changed so less saplings drop and more apples, i don't like it either

Well ty for the offer, but I'm more likely to make a few diamond axes and deforest the countryside. I actually made tree farms so I wouldn't need to ruin anyone's view.

i know right. this is becoming a sapling famine, i choped over a 100 pine trees yesterday and only got 38 saplings back. i use wood for all my builds and its starting to become extremely rare to acquire. if anything an adminshop for saplings would be the greatest counter for this problem

I highly doubt you are "friends" with Notch. Just because you wrote him an email and he accidentally replied back to you, doesn't make you friends.

I looked it up on the wiki and apparently saplings only have a 1 in 20 chance of dropping a sapling, which is pretty low, what I did notice is if I use tree feller a lot more saplings fall
