I have some good news and some bad news to share.

Bad news first, Bukkit is 90% dead.

Good news its being replaced by something else called Sponge

Sponge is being made by some of the top programmers in the minecraft world, them being this list

Who is involved in this effort?
sk89q (of WorldEdit/WorldGuard)
blood (of MCPC+/Cauldron)
LexManos (of Forge/FML/MCP)
cpw (of Forge/FML/MCP)
Portions of the Spout team (Zidane/Raphfrk/DDoS/Sleaker)
Portions of the Flow team (kitskub)
Portions from ForgeEssentials (AbrarSyed)
Other Bukkit Plugin developers (KHobbits/Elgarl/zml)
Portions of the FTB team
The Canary team
Glowstone (SpaceManiac)
Spigot team
Some previous contributors to Bukkit
Other people we have likely failed to mention

the big ones people will recognize being the Forge team, world edit people and some of the feed the beast team.

so we need to keep our hopes up that something is being done but there will be a transition because plugin makers will need to rewrite their code to work with the new system.

Dammit Boxes you beat me to it, lol
Yea, I was reading all the drama on bukkit.org Looks like everybody else quit and posted in the last 2 days their good bye. I still see nothing about Dinnerbone and his promises to update Bukkit to 1.8.
At this point I'm really pissed at Mojang for killing the whole thing, considering the only reason they got so popular is because of multiplayer and Bukkit made it possible to run multiplayer servers.
I'm right now considering running stock minecraft temp server just so people can play on it while we waiting for either Dinnerbone to come up with what he promised and hopefully that will give enough time for the sponge to catch up with stuff or we run temp server till Mojang comes up with server software.
Either way I think we have to do something.

As I mentioned to people in mumble before I got told to be quiet :3, I honestly don't think a temp server would be a bad idea for us, not for a while anyway, We have a very capable staff team who can do the usual staffy stuff, and can still do there jobs on a temp server, It will allow us to maintain our player base, because as much as I hate to say it, people will move on to 1.8 servers just to enjoy new perks and will sadly leave us with less custom. As much as I know most of the staff team/ if not all of you hate temp servers, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea, because we know mojang... Its going to be a while before we get anything decent out of them

https://twitter.com/Dinnerbone/status/5 ... 3606867968

but he posted that before Wesley Wolfe sent his DMCA notice that took down bukkit so im not sure if he can update it to 1.8 because he would have to rewrite large collections of code that wesley had contributed.

and with all that happening it might not be the worst thing in the world to have a temp server, but i think it should be up to the player base of the server and not just some staff decision .
