Seems to me that big server news items like this should be posted in the 'server news' forum.

another thing to mention is that minecraft updated to 1.6.2 and the server is still on 1.6.1 so you need to downgrade to play on the server. how you downgrade is up to you but the launcher can do it for you if you click the edit profile button then use the "use version" drop down menu to choose 1.6.1. i have no idea if that will remove your texture packs and such so use whatever works for you.
