Pvp on MCJ.

So here's my thoughts folks:
A lot of us LOVED pvp on Mcj, and now that's it is gone there's been some sadness. So I'm suggesting that we reinstate PvP with some rules.
All standard rules will apply, including previous ones. (No combat logging, no tp'ing in and outta battle etc) And for those people who are not interested in pvp we add new world portals. The portals at spawn can be added on to, and have a few go to the old world, but in newly generated land. So there's plenty of freshly generated land. PLUS it will provide some population to the old world.
I'm suggesting that we do this with a LOT of advanced notice, so there is no "WAAAAA I HATE THIS PLACE" And everyone can move to the old world if they prefer.

Alright, Here we go, For the most part PvP is a wonderful idea that adds its own unique aspect to the game and unfortunately alot of people that play minecraft don't enjoy it. They hate it with such an intensity that it causes lots of needless fights. But the people that enjoy it love it just as much as the people that hate it hate it so it isn't very fair that there is even a discussion about this as to wether we do or do not make PvP an option. The people that enjoy it will be just as upset if we decide not to enable PvP as the people that Hate it will be upset if we do enable it.
I've thought over a few options and I've come to the following conclusions:
If we enable PvP in New World again and tell people that don't like it to move we will create a large amount of animosity. People play minecraft to BUILD not to collect supplies or go mining they play minecraft to create. By turning PvP on in New World and say, "Sorry you have to move if you don't like it." Your forcing people into a corner. They either have to quit and not play on MCJ again or they have to give up their buildings and for all intensive purposes their homes to protect themselves. I for one would NEVER give up Noxus even if the biomes were forced to nether biomes and I had to deal with Ghasts constantly screaming and Pigmen Everywhere I would not leave that place. I knwo others out there feel the same but are not willing to weather the storm so they will leave to avoid PvP.
Residency may seem like the holy grail to defending themselves from PvP but that is a very poor solution as the No-Move and the Disable PvP options are utterly useless and can be used by the owner of the residence to give themselves an unfair advantage when fighting near home. Or to HIDE in their homes after successful raids to avoid retribution. Imagine if you will a PvP fight breaks out between Kenpachi and 4 other Members(Like that hasn't happened before) Kenny kills them all and takes ALL their stuff. Before they can go to get their stuff back he is safely home in his residence and;
1) If he has No move and PvP enabled they attempt to attack him getting caught in the residence and he kills them like trapped rabbits.
2) He has No Move enabled and PvP Disabled. They get stuck in the field and he waits for them to get unstuck before striking as he created the residence he knows exactly where to stand to avoid jumping into and out of the PvP zone while their camera is stuck jittering and the screen yanking as they free themselves from the residence.
3) He has No move Disabled and PvP Enabled. This is the only fair option where they can walk into his home and try to kill him. 99% of the members on this server will NEVER have this setup unless we force it upon them and if we force it upon them then whats the point of even having the options available?
If we create a New World specifically for PvP we will have people moving there because it is the New World not wanting to PvP and cause the same drama that happened with the Current New World and by their complaints force PvP to be disabled putting us in the same boat we are now.
If we were to create an Anarchy server then we wouldn't have to worry about anything other than catching those people that decided that it would be easier to just cheat and X-ray. Their would have to be staff that want NO PART IN FIGHTING HERE. Because those staff that want to take part in the world would be forced to give up all their vanish and teleport abilities because they could TP to someone vanished write down their co-ordinates then TP home and walk there normal. Supposedly the staff would never abuse their powers in such a fashion but I know I would be tempted just as anyone else. Why even give them the option to do it when you can easily remove the ability. That however would mean that there would be LESS staff in this world than the other world because any staff that wanted to participate would HAVE To give up their powers.
Those are my unbiased(Don't care either way) opinions on the matter unfortunately I want PvP enabled so I'll have a bit here where I give my biased opinion on the subject.
PvP should be re-enabled in the New World because it doesn't matter who the belly achers are the world was originally made for PvP and the people went into the world expecting that to be the case. Then they whined and the complained until PvP got disabled. The actions of the FEW outshadowed the actions of the MANY because the FEW that wanted PvP disabled where the loudest and the most capable of playing large scale groups loudly against single people to get that one person to rage uncontrollably and to be honest the person that raged should have been told to move to Old World and Frack off because the New World was created with PvP in mind.
that is my biased opinion on the matter. However I think that my actual opinion from all standpoints in the effort of maintaining the Status-qua would be to do nothing.
Sometimes the only way to win is to not play at all.

Hmm.
If we even consider putting PVP back onto MCJ, it cannot be like it was before. Before all the older players both have the diamond gear and insane Axes levels due to MCMMO. New players come in, old ones see them on the Dynmap, they swarm in with axes that can 3-shot someone in full Diamond gear, and it's over.
Then there was the TP'ing, safe-zone hopping, and Residence abuse. Unfair teleporting caused HALF the PVP drama there was, and Residence caused a ton of problems like changing move & PVP permissions on a whim, giving safe zones to dance out of, etc. And of course there were always hacking claims that made it worse.
If we bring it back, it has to be drastically different. I have a few suggestions.
1. The largest of these: A PVP On/Off switch. You come onto the server, PVP is set default to OFF. We can have this so there's a Staff-Request thread where you can request to have this turned on. Once you change it, it's fixed like that for a full month. No flipping it on/off cause you're in trouble or you're about to backstab someone. We're not having any of that.
2. When PVP is set to OFF, the world will be much like it is right now. When it is set to ON, you will not be ABLE to use any TP or TPA commands. If you wanna hunt someone, you get there yourself, like it should be.
3. Along with removing TP/TPA permissions for people PVPing, here's my personal suggestion: allow Stargates for player use in the New World, and let's actually moderate them this time. Keep it how it was before, it costs 50k to make one plus the materials to build it. It can only be created by VIP or higher. If the player/players inhabiting the area have been absent for some time, we delete the gate and refund the money. Keep it decluttered. Our world spans THOUSANDS of blocks, multiple world portals leading out to the tens of thousands, and there's no way to connect with one another. If someone wants to have a portal to allow this, why not?
4. People with PVP switched on are also switched OFF on the Dynmap.
5. We turn off MCMMO's PVP abilities. No Axes, no Unarmed, no Swords, no Archery. It's an additional unfair advantage given over new players and continually gives them no incentive to even try.
6. We turn off Residence's PVP flags. This removes both most of the PVP Dancing problems, and the player abuse by switching it on and off.
7. Trusted VIPs get access to special tools to avoid getting randomly hit when checking up on players, cutting out another large chunk of the drama. Abuse of this will lead to a swift ban and demotion.
8. I am not okay with the idea of having people move because we switch the PVP on in a world where it didn't have it before. Not all of us joined at the same time. A lot of our members joined without ever knowing PVP as it was on here, and they live in the New World.
That's all for now. If we cannot agree that we need a massive reform to PVP from what it was, then it simply can't happen. It'd be better for the server to slowly dwindle away from inactivity than have the community rip itself apart in our desperate attempt to breathe life into it.

Okay, here is where I stand on PVP:
I do think that MCJ needs pvp, because to be quite honest we are not a huge player base, and it is shrinking. PVP is one of the biggest attractions to minecraft in general, but again there are some problems we have had in the past with it, some suggestions I have to help fix these problems are:
1. I'm pretty sure that we have a max amount of residences every player, that max being 3. I suggest we raise this to 5 so that players can use the extra residences to safeguard areas.
2. I like the plugin that graystan suggested, but I think that if there was a way to set it up so players cannot control whether they can PVP or not, they can apply on the forums to have it removed. But vip+ or staff+ could control if its on or off, that way if someone gets in PVP drama or breaks the rules we as a part of the punishement we could turn there PVP off for a certain periode of time!
3. if we get the anarchy world, then many of our big PVPers would spend more time in there thus reducing the PVP drama in new world, the world would have to be moderated but only for larger things, like annihilating a structure, people would be advised not to build anything precious there, no plugins would be enabled there.
4. I agree with counts about having stargates back, they where awesome and mad it easier for people to get to points of interest or larger towns.
Well thats about all I have to suggest off the top of my head, I would like to have PVP back, its something that many people love about the game and enjoy day to day.

I do like what Dalton said about an anarchy world with staff that want no part in PvP. I never PvP, and I don't think Boxes or Joe either. Not sure about Nico. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find Staff that don't like PvPing.
Typo's suggestion seems too complicated and a pain to apply.

Yeah after the time with no pvp I am just wanting it back. Made the server way more enjoyable but we need to get rid of ragers...

I'm in the process of importing our temp world as vanilla PvP world.
My idea is to have it vanilla. No dynmap, no residence, no tp , nothing....no mcmmo. Put a huge obvious PvP gate at spawn with disclaimer and have separate inventories for people.

I think it is a good idea, I am not really much into PvP but it can be fun sometimes so im really looking forwards to get the world back. :]
Is there any new rules in the new PvP world? Be sure to post a topic about it if there is.
