Re: Discussion thread

Several things to address, just a heads up like most of this is about rules for the new world, and I'm super tired so all my paragraphs are twice as long as they should be.
I think this is a horrible idea. Before I started making friends here, I only stayed here because this was the one server I could find that wasn't resetting their map. We have an enormous playerbase that comes in and out of activity. I don't like this and neither do a lot of other people here, but the ones that are really going to be upset are the ones that just stopped playing Minecraft for some time, come back after the restart, and find everything gone. They lost all their work, everyone but them got to take over items, and they're going to be pissed and never come back. This applies to everyone, not just semi-regulars. I checked the other day, there are members that were dedicated enough to become staff that haven't logged on in over a month. From every rank of staff, some active on Mumble/forums and others that are just busy. Additionally, I really don't think it'll fix the lag, we've had several tiny temp servers since we started discussing this and the lag's been present there too. I really, really wish this were not happening.
But, since it is, onto making the transition/new world better.
First order of business, we need a name for the world. A real name. "Old World" and "New World" had all the depth of a Dr. Seuss book, I honestly cannot believe we kept it that long. I'll start a name suggestion thread and then a voting poll for them a few weeks later.
Second, IMO we should allow either a double chest to be brought over, or sync the world inventories between the New/Old World and the 1.7 world so we can bring our own Ender Chest and/or inventory over. Sure, I can put all my diamonds in a single pile, but there's so much crap that doesn't stack. Books, maps, anything that can be enchanted, anything named, saddles and armor, player head trophies, etc. People have rare items they only have a few of (Dragon Eggs, mob eggs, webs). PVPers will be hit twice in this reset, once by losing all their buildings and again by having to chose between head trophies, armor and books with hours of grinding behind them, and items to actually get started again. tl;dr It's bad enough we're losing everything we've built, not having a hard 27 slot limit might soften this blow a bit.
Walking everywhere cannot happen. Sorry, but it was a shitty idea when John hired Xaviens to World Edit railroads everywhere and it's a bad idea now. Whenever I pop on a random server for fun, the first thing to make me leave is having to run around for 15 minutes after leaving spawn to find somewhere where I CAN build, let alone where I'd WANT to build. This idea was sorta feasible when we only had a handful of towns and maybe 50 people three years ago, it certainly isn't anymore. At the very least, we need several world portals out of spawn like we have now. It would take days to cross a 35k by 35k world.
Onto rules/rule changes/EDIT I really just started rambling after a few paragraphs here be warned:
With a world limit, we cannot have a 100 block building limit. That's a ~200 square block plot from the center of the house, moreso for actually large structures. Forget how hard this would make building after leaving spawn, we'd completely fill up our "legal" buildable land in a matter of months. I propose one of two solutions:
1. We have two rules: A catch-all 20 block limit, and a 75/100 block limit for Residences of certain sizes/prices. If someone builds a 10x10 shack, there's no reason why they should have all that land around then when they might leave the next day. But if they spend a small fortune protecting their fortress, they should be able to keep people away.
2. A catchall block limit like we have now but smaller, maybe 30 or 50.
(Obviously this limit wouldn't be required in towns that are player run or between friends, they'll make up their own rules)
It's about time we got rid of the "No floating structures" rule. It's a sandbox world, not a sand castle contest, if you're on your land who the hell cares what you build. Seriously, staff have allowed redstone pissing genitalia but gotten into a hissyfit over a hovering platform. It was made under entirely different management on an entirely different server and has almost never actually been enforced (See: Dalton's wooden airship at spawn no that is not practical or sensible), it's time to let go.
With a clean slate and all building materials basically gone, either Advbuilder restrictions need to be loosened or the reward needs to be greater. I know some have objections against the former so let's do the latter. Resfly, possibly actual fly for the non-PVP Advbuilder rank (if we go with this /top /jump /ascend /descend /thru would also be good ideas, even if not they could be), Command Blocks for something set and approved by an admin (Redstone, sound effects, baby zombies riding skeleton horses, idk but it has tons of using other than kick commands and spawning items), a text color that doesn't suck, a weekly building kit of harder-to-come-by building materials that they're not allowed to sell (Packed Ice, Obsidian, Hardened Clay)...I'm just spitballing ideas here, the rank should be better than what it is: An abandoned creative world and getting to use lava.
Which leads into the next thing: Block bans. TNT doesn't detonate, fire doesn't spread, these blocks were a problem back in the day but they aren't now. TNT/FlintSteel should be usable by Veteran+. possibly lava too since people who get banned for griefing are like 99% Default/Member, not Vets. And Advbuilder can use lava while Members (Loisianna, Mexican_robot) can just go Member > Advbuilder, while anyone can make fire using Netherrack/Redstone, so these are kinda arbitrary bans. Also, we should have Circle Stone bricks in whatever our new admin shop is for a reasonable price. I never got the ban, they're pretty and in the game.
This is totally unrelated to anything else but on my mind since I'm vomiting a bunch of ideas for rule changes: Police should vote for Police applications and Police>Staff promotions. Staff do it for CM and Admin, and Police play significantly more than any other staff rank. If anyone knows the best candidates for those two promotion ranks, it's them.
I was going to ramble more but then I got bored and actually fell asleep so...yeah. -creative ending here-
EDIT: OMG I'm so sorry guys I seriously did not mean to write that much. That's over eleven hundred words I don't even know how that happened.
