Several things to address, just a heads up like most of this is about rules for the new world, and I'm super tired so all my paragraphs are twice as long as they should be.

I think this is a horrible idea. Before I started making friends here, I only stayed here because this was the one server I could find that wasn't resetting their map. We have an enormous playerbase that comes in and out of activity. I don't like this and neither do a lot of other people here, but the ones that are really going to be upset are the ones that just stopped playing Minecraft for some time, come back after the restart, and find everything gone. They lost all their work, everyone but them got to take over items, and they're going to be pissed and never come back. This applies to everyone, not just semi-regulars. I checked the other day, there are members that were dedicated enough to become staff that haven't logged on in over a month. From every rank of staff, some active on Mumble/forums and others that are just busy. Additionally, I really don't think it'll fix the lag, we've had several tiny temp servers since we started discussing this and the lag's been present there too. I really, really wish this were not happening.

But, since it is, onto making the transition/new world better.

First order of business, we need a name for the world. A real name. "Old World" and "New World" had all the depth of a Dr. Seuss book, I honestly cannot believe we kept it that long. I'll start a name suggestion thread and then a voting poll for them a few weeks later.

Second, IMO we should allow either a double chest to be brought over, or sync the world inventories between the New/Old World and the 1.7 world so we can bring our own Ender Chest and/or inventory over. Sure, I can put all my diamonds in a single pile, but there's so much crap that doesn't stack. Books, maps, anything that can be enchanted, anything named, saddles and armor, player head trophies, etc. People have rare items they only have a few of (Dragon Eggs, mob eggs, webs). PVPers will be hit twice in this reset, once by losing all their buildings and again by having to chose between head trophies, armor and books with hours of grinding behind them, and items to actually get started again. tl;dr It's bad enough we're losing everything we've built, not having a hard 27 slot limit might soften this blow a bit.

Walking everywhere cannot happen. Sorry, but it was a shitty idea when John hired Xaviens to World Edit railroads everywhere and it's a bad idea now. Whenever I pop on a random server for fun, the first thing to make me leave is having to run around for 15 minutes after leaving spawn to find somewhere where I CAN build, let alone where I'd WANT to build. This idea was sorta feasible when we only had a handful of towns and maybe 50 people three years ago, it certainly isn't anymore. At the very least, we need several world portals out of spawn like we have now. It would take days to cross a 35k by 35k world.

Onto rules/rule changes/EDIT I really just started rambling after a few paragraphs here be warned:

With a world limit, we cannot have a 100 block building limit. That's a ~200 square block plot from the center of the house, moreso for actually large structures. Forget how hard this would make building after leaving spawn, we'd completely fill up our "legal" buildable land in a matter of months. I propose one of two solutions:

1. We have two rules: A catch-all 20 block limit, and a 75/100 block limit for Residences of certain sizes/prices. If someone builds a 10x10 shack, there's no reason why they should have all that land around then when they might leave the next day. But if they spend a small fortune protecting their fortress, they should be able to keep people away.

2. A catchall block limit like we have now but smaller, maybe 30 or 50.

(Obviously this limit wouldn't be required in towns that are player run or between friends, they'll make up their own rules)

It's about time we got rid of the "No floating structures" rule. It's a sandbox world, not a sand castle contest, if you're on your land who the hell cares what you build. Seriously, staff have allowed redstone pissing genitalia but gotten into a hissyfit over a hovering platform. It was made under entirely different management on an entirely different server and has almost never actually been enforced (See: Dalton's wooden airship at spawn no that is not practical or sensible), it's time to let go.

With a clean slate and all building materials basically gone, either Advbuilder restrictions need to be loosened or the reward needs to be greater. I know some have objections against the former so let's do the latter. Resfly, possibly actual fly for the non-PVP Advbuilder rank (if we go with this /top /jump /ascend /descend /thru would also be good ideas, even if not they could be), Command Blocks for something set and approved by an admin (Redstone, sound effects, baby zombies riding skeleton horses, idk but it has tons of using other than kick commands and spawning items), a text color that doesn't suck, a weekly building kit of harder-to-come-by building materials that they're not allowed to sell (Packed Ice, Obsidian, Hardened Clay)...I'm just spitballing ideas here, the rank should be better than what it is: An abandoned creative world and getting to use lava.

Which leads into the next thing: Block bans. TNT doesn't detonate, fire doesn't spread, these blocks were a problem back in the day but they aren't now. TNT/FlintSteel should be usable by Veteran+. possibly lava too since people who get banned for griefing are like 99% Default/Member, not Vets. And Advbuilder can use lava while Members (Loisianna, Mexican_robot) can just go Member > Advbuilder, while anyone can make fire using Netherrack/Redstone, so these are kinda arbitrary bans. Also, we should have Circle Stone bricks in whatever our new admin shop is for a reasonable price. I never got the ban, they're pretty and in the game.

This is totally unrelated to anything else but on my mind since I'm vomiting a bunch of ideas for rule changes: Police should vote for Police applications and Police>Staff promotions. Staff do it for CM and Admin, and Police play significantly more than any other staff rank. If anyone knows the best candidates for those two promotion ranks, it's them.

I was going to ramble more but then I got bored and actually fell asleep so...yeah. -creative ending here-

EDIT: OMG I'm so sorry guys I seriously did not mean to write that much. That's over eleven hundred words I don't even know how that happened.

Ok, I guess Im either going crazy or my post did not post or disappeared.
Anyways,
I was not planning on clearing out anything from MCMMO. Everybody get to keep their stats and abilities.
Also Im all for keeping inventory so I can sync inventory for the new new world. My thoughts on that, people will loose some of their structures and at least we let them keep their stuff.
Also, though Im against private stargates considering that plugin is dead anyway, Im all for public stargates or portals like we have now. Basically official portals taking people to a safe points or official buildings or medium to big towns. We as admins would set them up and thats it. Im just against people building their own stargates hidden in their basements.
World limit Im thinking is about 35k radius which ends up 70k diameter which is pretty huge.
Im ok with keeping existing Official Nether world and Creative Flat world and The end. These are small worlds and I think their load on server is negligible.
I do agree with Countypo ideas on floating structures and creative rank. Voting for staff and other ranks , I always liked that , makes people more involved.
Also, to let you know, this decision of removing the old worlds, was not an easy one. I love checking old buildings and such, it brings lots of memories. But this software to put it simply, sucks donkey ballz. Minecraft was never meant to be a multiplayer server. It is a resources hog, it glitches, it really sucks as a software. Only because of bukkit , it is possible for us to do this. On top of it, we have maps that are old as minecraft alpha which came before beta. Just world saving was changed 4 times to a different file system. Not to mention all of it pushing about 50 gigs at this point. That is a lot of minecraft real estate. I guess I can spend another 500 to a 1000 dollhairs and it would work fine with the amount of data we got but I just don't have this kind of money to spare and I can not take it anymore to see server running like this. It also does not help that we have huge amount of plugins running.
Im thinking we starting a new clean world with new chunks. Eliminating couple of plugins like stargate, citizens and I think World inventories is dead now too, maybe we would have a nice tight server running again.

Count, Ohhh Count. A lot to talk about there.

1. A new name is needed indeed. Whatever it is, needs to be decided quickly. Within a week or so the world'll go up to start on spawn and that.

2. A double chest seems like too much when you get into it. There's no choices made, there's no what's more important's. Plenty of people have already created their chest, pvp'ers and non-pvpers. It's working, go with it. :P

3. No stargates/warps is a Kommy thing. Straight from the man himself. He wants it this way, HAS wanted it this way for ages. We always talk him out of it for some reason or another.. I really think it's going to stick this time. WORSE CASE: We end up puttin something in later.

4. Res limit/how close you can build/etc will need to be looked at, I agree. This is something we can do within the month we have to wait, as well as the rest of our rule sets.

5. "No floating structures" has been a rule for ages, as well as no 1x1 towers. Purely to try and keep near spawn areas clean foe new-member first impressions.

6. Adv builder requirements can be rehashed as well.

7. Police have gotten a say in Police applications for the past several promotion sets. I've asked for them to send in votes once we close the post. However I do think we should include them in a more offical manner!

8. Also, you're a butt.

Yeas, I forgot... yea Im all for deciding on the name and do it quickly. I think having our Home program and I can expand it to have more than 5 will help and will make people want to get promoted to higher ranks or donate some mullah... to get extra homes also.

I know at this point its probably not my place but I had a idea or two, First off I think the idea of creative world being well reconstructed may want to come back on the assumption nothing has been done about it, The world itself is great and advanced builders have all earned the right to build there but in all honesty besides a few nice structures the world is full of crap from people messing around and while I'm all for people going mad and playing with blocks the there hearts content I think at least that spawn area should be cleaned up.

I think voting for your police staff should be a privilege that could be given to veterans, not a huge say perhaps because it is the staff and admins that make that decisions but veterans, advanced builders and certainly VIP's/Police have all been on the server and have seen players and there reactions to certain individuals and how they handle situations.

Lastly I would Like to recommend that a list of the staff and police be kept in spawn so that new players could potentially at least know some names to ask questions too. I know that you can say that they could press tab or simply enter /list but that doesn't always occur to some people and it could save a new default who could one day contribute to the server a lot of stress over trying to join.

I know that I am not an active member of the server anymore but here is my two cents on the subject

Maxse, I have no problem with your voceing your opinions, but I would like to keep this thread on track.

So, Please no more talk about ranks, or the Police voting process for now.

Iv'e started making a chest by salvaging all my diamond enchanted items and it sucks after spending so much time on them but now it's already done and I get that 1 chest is good for this but the problem for me is that I need more space for the rare items that Iv'e gotten. More than a single chest is needed to bring over even if I don't bring ores if I want to bring sentimental items like gifts and prizes too. I also have tons of player heads which take up a chest or more themselves... I can get rid of some but would like to take some good ones. As for the rest I plan to sell my items to admin shops and was wondering if more could be made for this depending on what's happening with moneeeey.

Are the transferred chests going to be in a "vault" where they are locked for the player, or are we going to start the game with an inventory full of our most prized possessions?

Is the spawn island going to be shunted across, or is everything literally starting from scratch? If the second, how does Zerathule feel about this?

The End/Nether hasn't been decided either way. Personally I'm leaning towards redoing them as well, but there isn't a final word on it just yet.
