Re: Server down
I use tombstones and StarGate a lot, but with a smaller more organised world then StarGate could be tossed, but tombstone is way too useful - I imagine it's easy to lose track of that when you're immortal
To keep the world small, you'll need to reduce the far-flung portals and reduce the min build distance from one person to another. Allowing bigger residences or more of them would reduce the need to be "out of reach of the griefers".

Re: Server down
I wonder if tombstone plugin has a replacement. Stargate its just haven't been updated in a while and the owner is banned from bukkit community, so Im ok with loosing it. We have multiverse portals for official stuff. I just don't want people build some kinda portals themselves to travel fast across big distances, that makes world grow too big too quick.
I guess Im ok with using bigger residences or maybe find another plugin that works like residence and less server resource intensive

Re: Server down
Edit what I mean is we turn off all new chunks loading, only then turn it on if it really needed for whatever reason. A lot if people move and just go into new chunks than go into earlier spawned world, then some used to use it to find new things in the new updates. But I think we could get around that, like loading just a small amount of new chunks.

Re: Server down
There are plugins available that will outright stop new chunks from being generated. It is an extreme measure but would solve any world file size issues.

yea awesomesuarus was doing it 2 going around new chucks he was told not to but carried on :/
Re: Server down
Too bad we can't delete loaded chunks so they take up less space and can be re-rendered later. There has to be like 100000000000 chunks of worthless ocean loaded.

Re: Server down
I haven't explored much of anything since this problem was realized and I was asked to stop.keiranos wrote:yea awesomesuarus was doing it 2 going around new chucks he was told not to but carried on :/
Most of my time lately has been spent mining and preparing supplies for a new build. I did not "carry on." Speaking of which, the last few times I was on, I had no easy access to my build site because res was gone. I hope that doesn't go away permanently.
It is true that there's a LOT of unnecessary ocean that's been explored. Continents are much too far from each other, which becomes a problem when people try to cross the ocean to find a new one. There's countless zigzagged paths across the seas that lead nowhere because the people exploring them eventually gave up. All those chunks are useless.
