Beta 1.8 and the Future of MCJ

Post by joshthelegodude »

Beta 1.8 should be released on September 8th, and it will bring a lot of changes. The new mobs will not spawn in pre-1.8 chunks, and new chunks will not spawn next to old chunks. There a a few options:
1. Lose everything :(
2. Make a new map, and Enlist staff proficient with world-edit to copy everyone's stuff over.
3. Enter the nether, and go FAR FAR FAR away from civilization, essentially to make sure that if you leave, you will not be near old chunks. Then leave the nether, and then make a safe passage-way from the nether entrance to the exit to the 1.8 chunks.

We were talking about this with Kommy and staff the other day and we MAY be just making a new world with 1.8 as the default world, but still have access to the old world and possibly allow sharing items between the two.

I think making a new world wouldn't actually be too bad. After awhile, Minecraft can get boring and it sometimes gets to the point when you just want a new game to come out. By making a new world, we could learn from our old world mistakes and not abandon towns and random stuff to make our server even better. Yes, it will kinda piss people off if they loose everything, but it would be nice to work with a total clean slate with a fresh restart. Idk about adding another would just for 1.8 though. We would just have abandoned worlds that people never go to. I guarantee no one is going to want to use the 1.7 old world if you are able to just transfer the items into the 1.8 world. 1.8 is going to have new lighting, npc towns, shiny chicken eggs that float to you after killing a chicken :D, sweet new bow physics, new mobs, and lots more.

I like the idea of a new world starting over, but will we be able to bring our items from to new? If we can then I think it's a great idea. It's too crowded.

We should totally do a server poll. (Make a new topic with 2 threads; yes or no) Anyway, I agree with the new world, and I think people should bring a certain number of stuff in, say, 1/2 inventorys full.

The things I want to keep:
My Stacks of Diamonds
The Lava Blocks I don't have :D
Also, the Sky world will be in 1.8, so we should probably disable the Dream World

We already decided there will be a new world but you will be able to keep your items and transfer them over like the Dream World is right now. The new world will be the default world for everyone. With the 1.8 update it makes MANY changes to the landscape and if we didn't create a new world you wouldn't be able to take advantage of all the great things coming in the update. Plus many people would love to start over so this is the chance while still keeping all your items you have worked hard for.

So far the plan is to create a new world for 1.8 then make it a default world. So when you connect you will spawn there instead of any other worlds. We will have stargate to the old world and other worlds just like we have now. So if people want to play in our biggest old world, they can.
Also, we will make inventory the same for both worlds. Just like we have now with dreamworld and nether world. Lost world will still have separate inventory.
Another words, you will not loose anything.
As far as plugins, since the dynamic if the game will change a lot with 1.8 update, Im not sure which plugins we will keep and which ones will be absolete.
Also, things to remember, when the update come out, we will run again a temp world till bukkit and plugins will get updated, that way nothing gets grieffed. That is what we do every time with every update
I will crash you… Like we crashed capitalism…
Anyway… tech, geek, fps fanatic and now Minecraft junkie.
