Main world traps/holes

I thought that the main world did not allow for any kind of pvp, including traps and holes.

Last night (anywhere from 12:30 to 1am -5GMT) I fell into a hole and died. I searched for the hole with lemon but could not find it again, though I know the general area.

So I want to know, are deep holes and traps allowed or not allowed in the Main world in any location. If they are allowed, when and where are they allowed?

If they are not allowed in certain/any places, what can be done, and is there any way to find where I died easier than walking around looking for a 1x1 hole (there was a tunnel at the bottom of the hole)?

Thats just a hole someone made to get down to diamond mining levels. They were just idiots and never covered it back up.. If you see holes like that stick a few layers of dirt inside it.

I have the same problems, if you make a hole at least put a sign to make people notice where to it is. I lost 20 diamonds to one.
